A Chance to Serve in East Africa

by Jewelle Stewart

Over the summer, I had the opportunity to travel to theEast African countries of Kenya and Tanzania with my husband, Rabon Stewart. We spent a week with Kenyan IPHC missionaries Philip and Gailya List and Ron and Sharon Wooten, followed by a week in Tanzania with IPHC missionaries Kundael and Yasinta Mrema. The time spent with our missionaries let us experience firsthand how the Lord is using their lives and ministries to bring growth to God’s kingdom and spiritual breakthrough in the lives of people.

In Kenya, I participated in a two-day Women’s Ministries leadership training event. What a joy it was to take part in this and present certificates to 16 conference WM leaders who completed the training and passed their exams! Following the two days of leadership training was a well-attended Women’s Ministries conference held at Nairobi’s Calvary Temple. More than 150 women from various tribes and tongues throughout Kenya made the arduous trip to the church. Some women actually walked two days while carrying their infants and toddlers on their backs. God touched the lives of these women in a wonderful and powerful way, and I believe they were forever changed.

The next week, Rabon and I traveled to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and were met by a delegation from the Ebenezer PHC, where missionaries Dr. Kundael and Yasinta Mrema live and serve. Over the following days, we visited several of the newly established churches and were able to meet with the pastors and their wives. While visiting, we shared in a time of prayer for each of these new works. Additionally, I was able to meet women from several churches in two other areas.

On Saturday of that week, Rabon and I joined the women’s team of Ebenezer and took part in the weekly People to People “Feed the Hungry” program. On that day alone, we fed more than160 children, some of whom had not eaten for more than a day.

Our missionaries in these countries place priority on the training of godly men and women for leadership. They are seeing much fruit as a result of their consistent prayer and labor.

I returned home with a deeper appreciation for all of our IPHC missionaries. I also gained a deeper understanding of the special grace they need and the increasing urgency for resources so they may see the fulfillment of the vision God has
given them.

It is my prayer that God will help all of us in the IPHC to be more generous in our giving, thereby lifting the financial burden from our missionaries so they may see their visions become reality.
