Dr. Vijay Balla, a pioneering National missionary sent by World Missions Ministries to Bangladesh, has developed a grand vision for a national headquarters campus in the capital city of Dhaka. This campus will contain a complex of buildings to provide a variety of holistic ministries which reflect the concern of God to reach all sectors of society and redeem all aspects of life. The complex will include a church, an office building, an orphanage, a school, a hostel, a hospital, a nursing home, a printing press, and farmland to support the residents. The Operation Antioch grant will be used to purchase property on the outskirts of Dhaka and consruct the first building to serve as both a church and the office of our national headquarters (project # 75500).
Bangladesh is a small country about the size of Wisconsin, carved out of northeast India. It is home to 135 million people, about half the population of the U.S. Cyclones, floods, and other natural disasters strike often. Everyday life is hard for most, as 55% of the people live below the poverty line. The spiritual poverty is even worse: 85% of the people are Muslims, and only 1% are Christian. Eighty percent of the people of Bangladesh live in small villages scattered throughout the country, mostly untouched by the gospel. In addition, there are some 300 tribal groups yet to be reached as well.
In this Islamic nation, ministry is difficult and dangerous. Wisdom and prayer are necessary at every step, but the opportunity is there to establish a shining light for Christ which can transform countless individual lives, and even change the destiny of a whole nation.
