Village Bardi after flooding in December 2006

Village Bardi houses destroyed by raging flood waters

Water supply at the tent city

IPHC > World Missions > People to People > Flood Waters Submerge Kenyan Village

Late at night, Moses and his parents hastily gathered a few soggy belongings before racing for higher ground. Their thatched roof home was quickly filling with dirty river water. Because of the days of endless rain, the Tana River broke its dykes in the middle of the night flooding the entire farming village. They wondered how far they would need to walk before reaching a safe place to rest. His father was more concerned about their cattle, which were nowhere in sight. Two days later, word spread that tents were available if you were willing to leave everything and walk to the designated site. Four months later, they are still living in the tent city while trying to secure new employment nearby. Despite   recently losing their home, sense of security, and livelihood in the rushing floodwaters, they trust God to provide for their needs.

This family is one of Pastor Chengo’s many Muslim converts from the Bardi Village. For over 10 years, Pastor Chengo has worked among the unreached tribes of Kenya and now has a training center where former Muslims can learn a valuable trade while becoming disciples of Jesus Christ. This crucial ministry is even more necessary during a devastating natural disaster that would test the faith of a   seasoned Christian.

Missionaries Philip List and Jimmie Pope are requesting    assistance for the displaced  families who have lost everything in the monsoon like rains and subsequent flooding. Their drinking water is contaminated, the children no longer have a school in which to study, swamps replaced the once fertile fields, and yet God’s people still trust in Him. God desires to make Himself real among these people who are suffering almost impossible living conditions.

You can be a part of God’s hand extended in help! Please contribute to this urgent need by sending your funds directly to People to People Ministries or through your church and conference designated  “PTP-Kenya Relief.”
