Ministry of Medicine Team to Haiti

By Brenda Clowers

In September, fifteen of us traveled to various locales in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to conduct medical clinics and a pastor’s seminar. We arrived in the afternoon of September 20, 2007, from six different states. After a time of orientation, we began organizing the medications to prepare for the clinic scheduled to begin the very next day.

The first two days of clinics were held in Port-au-prince while Otis Garrison, who works with Mission of Hope in Haiti, joined OMC Dan Clowers of Latin America and the Caribbean and RMC Darrel Clowers, to hold a pastor’s seminar. Fifty pastors attended the conference.

For the next three days, we traveled to remote villages where we gave vitamins and parasite medication to all the schoolchildren in our People to People schools in Cabaret, Tapio, and La Rousch, and then set up clinics for the communities.

Overall, we dispensed over 4,000 prescriptions and treated more than 1,400 patients – and this was in addition to the students. At the three schools, there were approximately 1,100 students.

We were able to pray with many of the patients and several prayed the sinner’s prayer. Local pastors and school directors have committed to follow up with the patients. We were able to refer a few parents with very ill infants to the Mission of Hope hospital where they could receive thorough treatment.
