BURIED LIES

Years ago, reading through Genesis, I stopped where Isaac re-dug Abraham’s wells. I nearly threw the Bible down. (I was young, obviously!) I said, “God, why did You put that in there? It’s housekeeping information. You might as well have said he brushed his teeth or swept his tent!”
The Lord spoke on the inside of me. “Because, Marty, you have a well in you that your enemy filled with rocks like the Philistines filled Abraham’s well and you have to clean it out.”
He pointed out Scriptures that explained our well comes from our bellies. It’s our spirit. Living water should be flowing out of a Christian’s well, but it rarely does. That water has to pass through the seat of our emotions, located around the heart, and then it passes through the seat of our will, positioned around our vocal chords – what we say is what we will. That water, or words, comes out of our mouths and should be blessings. But with a well full of rocks, the water barely squeaks out.
The rocks are lies that Satan plants. That’s his only weapon. And his only goal is to keep us from God’s promises and from fulfilling our destiny. Through the nasty events in our lives he plants lies that we believe about ourselves and stop us cold. We clean out our wells by uprooting the lies and having Jesus plant the truth instead. Only the truth sets us free.
Here’s the form that Jesus gave me. He may show you another way; the point is: we must get rid of lies. I ask Him to show me my well. The Bible says we have spiritual eyes, so we can see in the spirit realm. Now that I’ve given hundreds of workshops on Uprooting Buried Lies, I’ve discovered that those who don’t see into the spiritual realm are those who don’t know how much God loves them. If you are one who can’t see, ask Jesus to show you how much He loves you.
Then I ask Him to show me the rocks. At first my rocks mounted to my chiny-chin-chin! Then I ask Him to pick one rock. He picks up a rock and shows me one side. On that side is written an issue of life, or a subject matter. An issue can be anything: Power, Rebellion, Rejection, Hate, Love, Money, Sex, Marriage, Sickness, Death, etc. Then I ask Him to turn it over and on the other side is written a lie I have believed about myself concerning that issue.
In the next step I ask him to show me the events where that lie impacted my life. He takes me back chronologically and shows me three or four experiences and then takes me to the root where the lie entered my life. At the root He encourages me to ask for the truth. The truth is very intimate to my life, so I ask Him to confirm the truth with two Scriptures. When I am certain of the truth I ask Him to rip the lie out of my well and plant the truth. I watch as He does this.
I can’t begin to describe how this changes my life. It’s not that I suddenly become rich, beautiful or famous. Fireworks don’t go off. But I leave this prayer time totally changed. I used to believe no one cared whether I lived or died. The truth He planted instead is “I planned your life and I care how you live and I care when you die.” The most destructive lie said I was too stupid to be successful. It was destructive because my destiny in Christ is found in the truth He gave me. He said, “I created you to write.”
I’d wanted to be a writer but never had the courage to try until God planted that truth. Now I write stories which are dramatized and aired on 45 stations in French. I write novels. For instance, I thought this prayer process was only for me until a few years ago the Lord inspired me to write a novel called Buried Lies. In that novel I unveiled the prayer process.
People read the novel and asked me to do workshops to lead them through the process. Since my first time to pray this way took me seven hours to get rid of one lie, I could see the sense in doing a workshop. Then people asked for a workbook to continue the workshop on their own. I wrote Buried Lies Companion Workbook and today I have an audio Workbook so people can do the workshop on their own and be led through the prayer process.
I receive testimony after testimony about people’s lives that change from reading the novel, doing the workshop, or following the CDs. Uprooting buried lies helps people be Overcomers. I thank God for giving me the privilege of writing it for others to read. I thank God I help people be set free!
